I was just buying my tickets for Mekonville when Chill asked could we kick off Temple Newsam Family Fun Day at midday on Saturday.
I checked to see if any players were left standing, agreed to let Sheeks and George to go early, and Gig to arrive late. Sheeks was off saving lives, which she seems to do all the time; George was off to change outfits and play with his other band; by the time Gig has finished deposited children around Leeds, lateness is inevitable. However on this occasion she taxing and insuring her first ever car! Yippee!
Give a drummer a camera, and he snaps another drummer! |
We were also me, Wanda, Sophie, Amy, MillieC [eventually]. And, after George left us, Chill had to put on the redshirt and tap along with us [pics pls anyone?].
Worst moment was picking up Millie who had been out the night before! Best moment was when the she was our passport into the back stage parking area on account of looking like her dad. Was that also a day after look!]!
Forgetting the banner, we were all gone by one, and I rolled off on the train to deepest Essex. Here I was greeted by Peter B, who said
"Can I thank you, Victoria"
"yes, of course, but what for?"
" For bringing steelpans to Leeds"
"Heavens, that's a nice thing to say!"
Well, as steel pan development officer for Leeds, I have been continuing the work that StClair Morris started back in the seventies. And there has been ,mamy successes, but also some setbacks. Being a white woman in pan world sadly does not suit everyone, and sometimes doors get closed, when all we are trying to do is play and promote this beautiful and inclusive instrument.
